Eye make-up removals that actually work!

They do say that the 'eyes are the windows to the soul',  whether you believe that or not, it still remains that for many of us ladies (and some men), our eyes are an important feature in our daily beauty routine.  We simply love to experiment with our eyes using various make-up products. Whatever the reason, whether we want to highlight the eye shapes, the brow, elongate the lashes or to simply add colour to compliment our dress sense; it's all about the eyes. The most common way of doing so is without doubt, the use of the various eye make-up products; eye liners, brow pencils, eye shadows and so forth. It is without exaggeration, that the eyes can change how you look mainly because it is the first thing that we usually notice about each other. Getting the right colour eye shadow, or shaping the brow perfectly to one's facial structure can make a huge difference in one's the overall appearance.

There are, luckily, a never ending stream of eye make-up products to cater for anyone. Many are also waterproof allowing us to feel confident in the fact that our make-up will stay put as we go by our busy daily lives. Waterproof make-up products are also useful for night out; no need to worry that your mascara will run if you sweat while busting some moves on the dance-floor! It's no coincident that increasingly more women opt for the long-lasting make-up products.

The difficulty these products have is finding a removal that actually works. The eyes are very sensitive and the skin around the eyes makes it crucial to find a product that is both effective but also gently to remove the make-up without over rubbing or damaging this sensitive area. There is also the matter of wanting to ensure that we can remove the make-up completely to avoid build up, which can lead to blocking pores restricting the skin from 'breathing' and those causing it to be prone to break outs, premature ageing and so on.

So if you are someone who loves your waterproof mascaras, eye shadows, eye liners etc., but loathe the trouble in finding a good removal for these products, please read on. Have you struggled to find products that actually do what they say in the tin? Products that not only remove the eye make-up but also cares for the eyes and the skin around it? Products that won't break your bank balance? If so, here are top three of my favourite eye make-up removal.

a) Alpha-H Balancing cleanser (with Aloe Vera) : Now before you say, "Hang on! That's a cleanser not eye make-u removal!", hear me out. This is a facial cleanser but it's also a 3 in 1 type cleanser. In fact, it's is one of the most effective eye make-up removals around. Alpha-H, for those of you not familiar with the brand, is a very high end Australian company known for its effective, well researched and affordable beauty products. Alpha-H cemented it's reputation and acclaim as one of the trusted beauty companies around following the success of their world best seller and multiple award winning product: the Liquid gold. You know you are in good hands! Such a trusted reputation continues with many of their products. This product is no exception. The cleanser is creamy in colour and texture. It is also odourless and non greasy. Packed with essential vitamins and minerals, this product is ideal also for overall treatment of the skin including the delicate area around the eyes. It's easy to use; simply apply on damp face and wipe off with a warm clean cloth. The piece de resistance is that it works even on waterproof stubborn eye make-up. It removes all the grime leaving your entire face clean, fresh and radiant. Alpha-H caters for all skin type and their products are not tested on animals nor do they contain harsh chemicals. This product is a must have!

Suitability: Like all Alpha-H products, this product is safe to use for all skin type although if, in the unlikeliest event,  you do react to it then seek medical assistance. It's therefore suitable for all skin types, gender, age. It comes in small and large tubes (largest so far is around 200ml). It is also sold as a duo so makes it very cost effective this however, isn't guaranteed so you might have to shop around for offers. It also cleanses the whole face, not just eyes thus making it even more affordable.

Costs: Since this is an Australian company, the average cost (at the time of writing this article) is around  $42 AUD (see official website link below). However, for those in the UK, this product can be purchased in other various outlets including Amazon, qvc and so on at an average price of £20 per 200ml tube. It does last a long time, however this will depend on how much or often you use it.

Overall rating: 9.5/10 because it does the job without fuss. As a 3-in-1 product it's the most cost effective and practical.

b) Balms Away: Here we have a product specifically made for eye make-up removal. So if you have a cleanser and/or toner that you are happy with and are only looking for something specifically to target removal of eye make-up, this is the one for you. Balms Away, as the name suggests, is a balm in a round portable tub. In texture, its more like a 'vaseline'; thick, clear jelly. It is therefore, greasy in nature and for this reason might put some people of. It is odourless and is very effective in removing all kinds of eye make-up, including waterproof, without damaging or stripping the delicate skin around the eyes. Usage of Balms Away is simple; apply a dollop onto closed eyes, keeping the eyes closed massage the product gently and wipe off with soft tissue or cotton pad. Easy peasy, don't you agree? The products contains vitamins A, C and E including other plant extracts to ensure that your eyes remain protected.

Suitability: This will suit anyone who needs just the eye make-up removal, especially if you are not fussed over the texture. It is packaged well and easy to pop it in your hand bag. The 64g tab will last awhile since you only will be using it for removing eye make-up. Thus making it cost effective.

Costs: Balms Away is a relatively unknown brand hence purchasing this product can sometimes be tricky. However, you can get it from Amazon and other beauty retail stores Online. It retails at around £18

Overall rating: 8/10 because the thick, greasy texture will not appeal to everyone.

c) Liz Earle Eyebright Duo: Liz Earle beauty products are well known and loved by many who use them. This successful British company (having won the Best British Brand Award 2011) continues to win awards with its innovative products and high research ethics, similar to Alpha-H. I have tried many of Liz Earle products and have to say I have not been disappointed. Therefore when it comes to eye make-up removals the Liz Earle Eyebright Duo lives to to the company's reputation. This product is easy to use and the fact that you get it as a duo makes it even better. The product itself is light in texture, almost runny and creamy in colour. It comes in two 150ml bottles. It's easy to use again simply dampen cotton wool with product and gently remove eye make-up with it. The product is nearly odourless though there is a hint of herbal scent, not surprising as the product is infused with vitamins and herbal extracts. The piece de resistance of this product is that it is perfect for those who wear contact lenses. It has indeed been designed especially with such users in mind.

Suitability: Liz Earle products are suitable for all skin types and this is no exception. The product is made specifically to target the contact lens wearers but it can be used by anyone with super sensitive eyes. It is very gently to the eyes but very effective in removing make-up, dust and other grime.

Costs: The eyebright duo is good value for money not only because it's sold as a duo, but also because it's effective enough to be used sparingly. Of course how long it will last will depend on your individual needs and usage. This product can be purchased directly from the Liz Earle website (see below) or from other beauty retail stores including qvc. It retails at around £20
